Children’s paradise in the Drenthe countryside
Never-ending outdoor play, swimming, pony riding, trampolining and building sandcastles, that’s what a family holiday at EuroParcs Ruinen is all about. This campsite has a beautiful location on the edge of the Dwingelderveld National Park, an extensive area of heathland and woods. Have a look at the flock of sheep behind the campsite or explore the mysterious ‘hunebedden’ burial mounds of Drenthe. There’s plenty to experience! You can enjoy the campsite’s heated swimming pool all day, and wherever you stay on the campsite, you will find fun playground equipment. That all makes for a holiday full of climbing, clambering and swimming!
In the middle of countryside
The campsite is ideally located for nature enthusiasts. You will be camping at EuroParcs Ruinen surrounded by no fewer than three National Parks. Just walk into the Dwingelderveld and a bit further on you will come to the Weerribben-Wieden wetlands and the extensive Drents-Friese Wold. Walking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing or animal spotting are the perfect way to fill your holiday. There are plenty of family outings close by, including amusement parks, treetop adventure parks and great museums.
Indoor and outdoor swimming
You won’t have to sit around doing nothing at this campsite. You can enjoy swimming all year in the wonderfully warm indoor pool with slides and a toddlers’ pool. And in the summer, you can pay your neighbours a visit; the wonderful municipal swimming pool in Ruinen. This is a paradise on hot days with various pools, great slides, playground equipment and lawns for relaxing on.
Trampolining and an indoor playground
EuroParcs Ruinen is the perfect campsite, especially for young children. There is playground equipment in every field and there is a large playground with a trampoline and even an indoor playground for children up to eight years. The natural playground with a cable ride and lookout tower is a recent addition. Young children can play all day long in the sand and water, and they will be expert sandcastle builders by the end of their holiday. Meanwhile you can keep an eye on them from the terrace; you are on holiday as well.
Pony riding
The Drenthe countryside is one big playground! Take part in great activities such as building huts, canoeing in the Weerribben-Wieden or a mountain bike clinic. Or visit the children’s farm and stroke the ponies. Young children can also have a ride on these lovely animals. The enthusiastic entertainment team is on hand with many more activities during the spring and summer school holidays.
Attractive brasserie
You can enjoy a snack or a drink at the attractive brasserie. When the children have had enough to eat, they can go to the playground, while you can take some time for yourself. You have a good view of the playground from the terrace, so your children will never be out of sight. If you don’t want to cook or go out for a meal, just visit the snack bar. You can also get fresh bread at the campsite.
An adventure in hunebedden country
The moment you leave the campsite, you are in the beautiful Drenthe countryside. Have a look at the flock of sheep in the Dwingelderveld, right behind the campsite, or go on a lovely bike ride, a walk or mountain biking. If you want to know more about prehistoric times and their unusual monuments, visit the Hunebed Centre in Borger, which is a 40 minute drive from Ruinen. The Weerribben-Wieden National Park is the same distance. This wetlands area is great for canoeing or you can visit the unique town of Giethoorn. You are just a half hour drive from WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo in Emmen or at the entrance to Slagharen Amusement Park.
